New work in progress – Part 2

Progression.. It’s coming along! I don’t have as much time as I thought and, as usual, this is taking longer than I though.

12″ x 24″, acrylics, title still in the works (I’m hesitating between two!)

My first step was to block in the background. The dreaded background..! And the trunk, placement of blossoms and grass.

I quickly realized that the background was too distracting and removed lots of the green, to make it more like a fuzzy cherry tree in bloom in the distance.

At this stage, I needed to tone down the saturation of the background, as well as the tone. I also moved some blossoms more to the left, to let the scene breath better. I also worked on the tree trunk texture and started to block in the first crow.

Just worked mostly on the crow, blocking in some forms and tones and molding the feet.

Today I worked on refining the crow’s plumage and elongating the toes on the right paw (one toe was way too short). Adjusted the lighting on the bird and a bit on the tree. Glazed some colors on the tree. Worked on edges.

That’s it for now! Hopefully I’ll get to work on the other crows tomorrow, then the grass, work more on the tree and start on the blossoms. Retouch the lighting and I’ll be done!

New work in progress – Trio of crows, 12″ x 24″ – title also in progress

I started to work on a new piece with crows and cherry blossoms. It’s a very Victoria subject!

This will be part of several paintings that will form one cohesive mosaic tetraptych. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll start with this one and hopefully the others will follow.

I’m hoping to get started on the paining tomorrow and, knock on wood, hopefully be done by Sunday. Yeah, I probably just jinxed myself by saying that. Ha!

À bientôt!
